All ROYAL CANIN® Fresh Veterinary Nutrition diets are formulated to meet AAFCO nutrient profiles, providing complete and balanced nutrition. They are held to the same high standards for quality and safety as all our products. Every formula is evaluated using the same rigorous approach as our traditional diets, including tests for palatability and digestibility. Furthermore, clinical trials assessing performance for each specific therapeutic indication are currently underway. Results will be shared with the veterinary community upon their conclusion.
Key Nutritional Features include Microbiome and Digestion Support:
• All diets include fiber from whole ingredients. In addition, Appetite Stimulation and Gastrointestinal Low Fat contain yeast extract as a source of MOS (prebiotic fiber). Gastrointestinal Low Fat contains powdered cellulose and psyllium fibers too.
• All three diets contain EPA + DHA at levels shown to support digestive health and help modulate inflammation.
We are entering the fresh market to meet the growing demand from pet owners for high-quality, fresh diets with visible ingredients. Our research shows a significant need for science-backed, nutritionally complete options, particularly for pet owners who may otherwise turn to unbalanced, home-prepared meals following a health diagnosis for their pet. Our fresh diets provide a trusted, science-based option in addition to kibble and canned food.
Our new fresh diets complement, rather than replace, our traditional portfolio. They are an additional “tool” for nutrition that upholds the same high standards of quality, safety and science-led formulation as our kibble and canned diets. Nutritionally, the primary difference is moisture. Similar to canned food, our fresh diets have a much higher moisture content than kibble, making them an excellent option for pets needing more water in their diet or requiring a softer, easy-to-chew texture.
• Expert Formulation: Each diet is first developed by our team of board-certified veterinary nutritionists.
• Ingredient Preparation: Our ingredients are fully cooked by our audited suppliers, then Individually Quick-Frozen (IQF) to preserve texture. All ingredients are certified to meet our strict quality, safety and nutritional standards before arriving at our Nashville, TN kitchen.
• Assembly & Safety: In our kitchen, ingredients are thawed, measured and packaged. The packaged food then undergoes High-Pressure Processing (HPP), a non-thermal method that uses extreme water pressure to eliminate harmful bacteria, ensuring the food is safe while preserving nutrients.
• Freezing & Shipping: After HPP, the diets are frozen and shipped. For optimal safety and freshness, you should store the food in your freezer upon arrival.
We select our ingredients based on their exceptional nutritional value and strict safety standards. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we work to source our raw materials as close to our manufacturing sites as possible, provided our suppliers can meet our stringent quality requirements. This approach allows us to support local supply chains and minimize our environmental footprint without ever compromising on the precise nutrition pets need.
The Selected Protein Pork diet is produced in the Nom Nom facility in Nashville, TN which uses a combination of thorough sanitation, ATP (adenosine triphosphate) test swabs, and protein test swabs to identify potential cells or proteins on production lines. First, ATP testing verifies the removal of overall organic and cellular material, confirming the overall effectiveness of the cleaning and sanitation process. Secondly, protein detection swabs are used to verify absence of proteins on equipment, directly addressing the protein risk before producing the Selected Protein Pork diet.
Since allergens come from proteins, a two-step verification process can rapidly confirm if additional cleaning is required before producing the Selected Protein Pork diet. The test is completed onsite and is highly sensitive, detecting as little as 50 g of protein on surfaces. If results outside of our stringent specifications are obtained for the ATP detection test, or if the protein detection test swabs obtain positive results, the sanitation and swabbing process is repeated.
Our philosophy remains nutrient-based and science-led. While our packaging may highlight certain ingredients, they are selected strictly for their nutritional value and their role in achieving a precise balance of essential nutrients for pet health. This approach helps educate pet owners on the specific nutrients provided by ingredients they are familiar with, blending our scientific approach with evolving consumer expectations for transparency.
At this time, the meal packs are not recyclable. In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, our boxes and premium insulating liners are all either recyclable or made from recycled materials and are designed to keep your dog’s food in optimal condition during transit.
Customers can expect to receive their product within 3-10 calendar days.
Our Palatability Guarantee means that all ROYAL CANIN® products guarantee 100% satisfaction for superior palatability, quality and consistency. If for any reason you are not 100% satisfied, please contact us for support at 888-213-4486.
This is essential to maintaining both the quality of the diet and the safety of your clinic and household. Please follow these precise, safety-first steps when unpacking your delivery:
1.Open with Care: Carefully open the outer shipping box. Avoid using deep blades that could puncture the insulated liner or the individual fresh frozen meal pouches inside.
2. Inspect the Insulated Liner: Gently lift the top flap of the thermal liner to inspect your shipment.
3. Handle Remaining Dry Ice Safely: Our formulas are sometimes packed with dry ice to maintain the cold chain during transit.
If any solid dry ice remains in the box:
4. Transfer Product to the Freezer Immediately for Storing. To preserve the nutritional integrity and freshness of the veterinary diet:
Orders with a fresh diet must include a minimum of 4 fresh items per order. Orders can be mixed and matched with any of the ROYAL CANIN® Fresh Veterinary Diets including Gastrointestinal Low Fat, Selected Protein Pork Recipe and Appetite Stimulation.
Once the diet has thawed in the refrigerator (at 35-37°F for at least 24 hours), we recommend warming the sealed package in a 3-quart bowl of 120°F water for 10 minutes prior to serving. Never use a microwave to thaw or warm fresh pet diets. In addition to creating uneven “hot spots” that can severely burn a pet’s mouth, microwaving can result in nutrient degradation. Plus, because high-quality, nutritionally complete diets contain concentrated levels of essential minerals, microwaving can sometimes result in sparking.
